“Families In Need Project” A Huge Success
Helping 32 Local Families

By Diana Needham
On Dec. 22, 2019, The Cerritos Optimist Club and Soroptimist International of Artesia-Cerritos members completed their annual “Families In Need Project” delivery to 32 local families. Multiple toys were provided to each of the 82 children and over 14,565 pounds of food and sundries were delivered to the families.
Co-Chairs, Ray and Kathy Lovell, led the successful effort with the help of over 110 Optimist Members, Soroptimist Club Members, their friends and family, Junior Optimist students, and other volunteers.
Donors included Optimist members, Soroptimist members, the City of Cerritos, Razor, Red Hat Society, Ralphs, Gahr High School, Crown Carton Company, Revolve, LeFiell Manufacturing, Supervisor Janice Hahn, Marqui Realty, the Cerritos High Octagon Club, Gonsalves Elementary School, and the Cerritos Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“This was a gigantic effort that took over 600 volunteer hours to complete and helped a very large number of local families,” said Kathy Lovell. “The volunteer delivery teams reported on the many children that squealed with delight and the many grateful parents,” said Ray Lovell.
